App Exclusive Discounts

App exclusive discounts are coupon codes that only work in your mobile app. On your website, shoppers can't apply them: they see an error message, which you can customize, inviting them to use the app. In the app, the codes work as usual.

Available on every Shopify plan except Starter.

How it works

• You choose which coupons are app-only: all coupons that start with a word like APP, specific coupons, or both.
• On your website, shoppers who try one of these coupons see your error message.
• In your app, the coupons work normally.

Before you start

1. Install the MobiLoud Shopify app.
2. Turn on the MobiLoud App Info app embed: in Shopify, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds, switch it on and click Save.

If you installed MobiLoud a while ago, Shopify may ask you to approve updated permissions when you open the app. Click Update to continue.

Step 1: Open the Discounts settings

In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > MobiLoud > Settings > Discounts.

Step 2: Choose your app-only coupons

Use one option or both.

Coupons starting with a word

Tick Make every coupon that starts with this text app-only and enter the word, for example APP. Any coupon starting with it becomes app-only, like APP10 or APPSUMMER, including ones you create later.

Specific coupons

Click Select coupons, tick the coupons you want and click Done.

Step 3: Customize the error message

Under Message shoppers see, write the message shoppers see on your website when they try an app-only coupon. If you leave it empty, they'll see: "This coupon can only be used in our mobile app. Please complete your purchase in the app to apply the discount."

Step 4: Save

Click Save. The status changes to On.

You'll also see a new discount in your Shopify Discounts list called "MobiLoud: app-only coupon protection (don't delete)". It doesn't change your prices; it's what keeps your app-only coupons working, so please leave it in place.

Step 5: Test it

1. On your website, add a product to the cart, go to checkout and enter an app-only coupon. You should see your error message.
2. In your app, do the same. The discount should apply.

Turning it off

In Settings > Discounts, untick the option, remove any selected coupons and click Save. Your coupons will work on your website again.

Troubleshooting

• A coupon still works on the website: check that the status in Settings > Discounts says On. If it says Needs attention, click Restore protection.
• A coupon doesn't work in the app: make sure the MobiLoud App Info app embed is on and your theme is saved.
• You see a "Fix now" button: click it.
• "Not available on the Shopify Starter plan": app exclusive discounts need the Basic plan or higher.

Good to know

• Using the previous version? It only worked on Shopify Plus and was set up with a checkout rule. Switch to the new version in Settings > Discounts; the old checkout rule will be removed in a future update.
• App exclusive discounts don't work on headless storefronts.
